A bit of background on this design classic, courtesy of Living etc (May 11):
Also known as the Y chair or the CH24, the Wishbone was designed in 1949 and has been in production since 1950. Inspired by classic paintings of Danish merchants sitting in Ming Dynasty chairs, Wegner's triumph of form-meets-functionality achieves optimum compfort through an economical use of materials. "People are usually surprised to discover that the seat is woven manually" says Trine Ingwersen at Carl Hansen & Son. "Every CH24 is hand finished, with all the wooden components individually selected by a carpenter to ensure the chair is as uniform in grain and colour as possible". Each Wishbone chair seat uses 120m of paper cord.
Condition-wise, there are some signs of wear which come with age. There are some small scratches and scuffs, nothing major. The wood is in good condition with a great patina, with no breaks or cracks and the seat has a few small marks but nothing major.
